Updated Competition Rules

The recent innovations in computer image processing involving addition of externally generated images have meant that there is a need to re-define the rules governing what the club will accept by way of acceptable competition images from now on. The new rules are available in the protected Members area of the web site here.

The relevant changes are as follows:

2.3All entries must originate from a photographic image (or images) taken by the photographer. The use of stock images or the use of advanced Generative AI tools where entirely new images or image elements are built at pixel level using non-photographic processes are not permitted.
2.4AI-enabled algorithmic automation of basic imaging processing (including for example exposure optimisation in-camera, the cloning of a background, or removal of subject elements), are allowed, all such modifications must be the photographers own work.

A further update to clarify the acceptance of an image on more than one occasion has also be incorporated to this latest update of the rules as follows:

3.1.1Members are encouraged to enter new work.  Images may be used in competition only twice in any format and this must be in two different competitions (the 4 rounds of the Challenge Cup count as one competition).  For example an image entered in one round of the Challenge Cup Competition as a print can be used once more in any of the other individual competitions (either as a print or PDI) but not in another round of the Challenge Cup. Similarly, an image entered in, for example, the People Competition may be used once more in any of the other competitions but not in subsequent people competitions. *Note this includes entries into people competitions that were previously incorporated into the Challenge Cup
3.1.2Rule 3.1.1 does not apply to the Print and PDI of the year or John Clark Memorial competitions.
